Hi, I am researching the Cockburn family of Kennoway for my young cousin in Australia and we were looking for the burial of one of her great grandfathers named William Cockburn who lived in Kennoway. He died on 3rd November 1871 however when I enquired with the Council, their records only start from 1894. Could someone let me know where I could retrieve this information or who I could contact? Any help would certainly be appreciated as my cousin is new to family tree research and I said that I would ask who I could. Thank you in anticipation.

Hi, I am researching William Ramsay born in June 1775 in the parish of Ceres, Fife. He married Dorothy Ann Farrell, from Ireland. He was a gunner in the Royal Artillery and was discharged in 1817 in Halifax, NS. He received a land grant in Dalhousie Settlement, in the Annapolis Royal area of Nova Scotia. I have gotten back as far as him and am now stuck ! Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Largo Fife- Where in Burntisland would I get information on a John Moffat a shopkeeper/employee at the Shore area. He was there for the 1851 census but disappears and then is found in Kirkcaldy for the 1881 census. Lost for 30 years. Anyone help please.

If he was a shopkeeper there are trade directories. But also try Kirkcudbright and Dumfries census there is a family there which looks like it could match yours

Born in Kirkcaldy in 1944. Been back a few times, and have visited a Muckersie Mill & Church near Forteviot in Perthshire. App. the Belshes used it as a burial or so place. Have been trying to find any Muckersie familly whom must have lived there at some stage? App. two brothers came to Kirkcaldy at some stage, but have not been able to find out more.

John Muckersie died Kirkcaldy 30.6.1891 aged 81 this might be one of your brothers!

Reseaching John Henderson b Abbottshall 1812/14.
I have been trying to determine / confirm the parentage of one John Henderson b Abbottshall around 1814.
My John Henderson married Elisabeth Anchard / Orchard from Earlstoke, Wilkshire in London in 1834, On this marriage record there is no reference to John's parentage.
John and Elisabeth lived in Ceres for a number of years and had a number of children including David A, John A, James A, Sarah B, Mary, Elizabeth, Thomas, William and Ann. In the 1851 census all the children have a birthplace of Ceres with the approximate years of birth. Unfortunately I can not find the childrens births in the PR's. In 1861 the family was in Wales and then went to Ireland where I believe John died in approximately 1875 /8.
I am not sure what the middle initial means on the childrens names however Elisabeth's father was John Archard /Orchard and her mother was Sarah Benell, now I made an assuption that John father was called David and his mother Mary and I did find a parish record for John Henderson with parents of David Henderson and Mary Lessells born in Abbootshall in 1814.
What do you think of my logic?

I have been researching both mine and my husbands family tree and whilst we both met in Doncaster in the UK found both our family history to be mainly from Fife! So I am always seeing how if I can find snipets of information relating to our ancestors, I am particularly interested to find out about farmers, land and tenancies from the late 1700s to early 1830's with regards to my ancestor Thomas Arnot [Arnott].

Hello I wrote to Hugh Reekie about my ancestors in Fife, viz, David Smart and family but have had no reply. Do you know of him or have i wasted my time and try someone else. I am a Member of Alloway and Southern Ayrshire Family History Society and the Snart family were in the Kettle area and would like to find out more about them. David was born about 1816 to James Smart and Janet Younger. We think he left Scotland in about 1856 for Australia. Can anyone help me with tracing my ancestors. Thank you

If you have your father's birth certificate in Scotland it will give his parents names and when and where they got married. You can start working backwards from there eg. find their marriage which will give their parents - George's grandparents. Once you get back to 1911 and before you can use the census records.
