Hi, looking for info on my g/g/grandfather Alexander Harley. My g/grandfather was Alex Harley, born Nov 1878 in Priory Lane, Dunfermline. His mother was Ann Adamson and his father was Alexander Harley, Police Officer, Gibb St.(they were not married) According to Dunf Police Records, Alex snr was employed there from 1883 until 1887 then left to go to America. This fits in with info I have except for the employment dates with Dunf Police. He may have been a part-time special constable in 1878 and became a regular in 1883? Anyone have any info on Alex Harley snr? Born Markinch Jan 1856 to Alex and Jane (Crombie) then married a Rosina Gibson in 1877. Emigrated to USA around 1888. Had a brother David. I can only find one Alex Harley, Police Officer in Dunf Police so it looks like he is my relative but any info on him or his family would be appreciated.

My 3rd great-grandmother, Janet Mitchell, was born in Burntisland in 1812 to parents William Mitchell and Janet Kidd. Janet Mitchell had a daughter, Janet Mitchell Rhymer about 1838, but I can find no record of her marriage to her daughter's father, John Rhymer, a slater. Janet Mitchell was living with her daughter, Janet (Jess) Rhymer and her sister Christian Mitchell in the 1841 census, but by 1851 had moved home to live with her parents as a pauper. Then she disappears, and her daughter's marriage record in 1857 says her mother is deceased. I would like to know what happened to her. If she died between 1851 and 1857, she was probably buried in the pauper's section of the churchyard, without a headstone. Anyone have a clue as to how I can find out what happened to her? Thanks.

In the 1851 census, my great-great-grandfather David Robertson gave his birthplace as Kettle, Fife, and his age as 34 years. I find no birth or baptism record matching that. His married Agnes Thrislie 20 May 1837
in Cults, Fife. Their first child was Janet, born Sep 24 1837, in Cults. The moved to Lanarkshire and later to Stiirlingshire. I hope to determine the identity of his parents and siblings.

My great great grandfather emigrated from Auchtermuchty, Fife, to New Brunswick, Canada before his marriage in 1839. His name was John Arthur and he was the son of Thomas Arthur and Janet Baillie Arthur. I'd like more information on the family and would love to know if there are any members of this family still living in Auchtermuchty.

I have been researching the family tree of my brother in law, Stephen Brough.
I know his father was MacKenzie Brough bn 1933. On the registration of his birth, the father is named as Alexander Penman of 57 Dundonald Park, Cardenden, Fife.
From the enquiries made to date I know that the main householder of that address is a John Penman.
Any info on either of these men would be helpful.

Researching the grandfather clock which is a family heirloom has led me to the marriage of Andrew Reid of Kilconquar and Isabella Mitchel of Burntisland on Oct 9th 1809. The clock is engraved with the initials I.R. so I think Isabella could have been it's first owner. I would now like to find out more about them, was Andrew part of the Reid family who were weavers in Dunfermline? Where did the Mitchels come from? The clock would have been an expensive gift so who gave it to her? Their daughter, Ann, was born Nov 14th 1810 in Burntisland but I have no address. Census records do not start until 1841 by which time they had left Fife.
Any ideas please where I can find out more? THANK YOU for reading this.

The 1881 Scotland Census show my Great Grandfather Charles Fyfe living at Harbourhead House, Kirkcaldy with his wife and children - my Grandfather Rev John Spark being a lodger. On the 1871 Census GG Charles lived at Roseangle Villa, Pathhead, Dysart - information I have is that this private house has been renamed "Brinny House". Can anyone tell me exactly where it is?

I have a postcard of John Mackie's Hairdresser and Tobacconist's shop at 379 High Street, Kirkcaldy, if anyone would like it. Mr Mackie has an entry in the 1920 Fife and Kinross Trades Directory.

Anyone like it?

Hi, I am researching the Cockburn family of Kennoway for my young cousin in Australia and we were looking for the burial of one of her great grandfathers named William Cockburn who lived in Kennoway. He died on 3rd November 1871 however when I enquired with the Council, their records only start from 1894. Could someone let me know where I could retrieve this information or who I could contact? Any help would certainly be appreciated as my cousin is new to family tree research and I said that I would ask who I could. Thank you in anticipation.
