SCOTTS of ELIE - I'm trying to trace my ggg grandmother Helen Scott born in Elie c.1799. Her father was William Scott and her mother possibly Helen -surname unknown. (I suspect William Scott died when his daughter was quite young and that her mother remarried as daughter Helen was later known as Helen McGregor.) She moved to Edinburgh and married my ggg grandfather, James Grant, a flaxdresser in 1817.
Can anyone please help me find more information - her parents' marriage, her birth record, her father's death, mother's second marriage etc!! Thank you to any kind person who could help me!!

I have been researching my BEVERIDGE line which came from the Dunfermline area & environs. Also WILSON, THOMPSON OR THOMSON, WILKIE, MOREIS OR MORRIS OR MORRISON & McBAITH & BALFOUR lines. My grt.grandfather & grt. grandmother came from Dunfermline in abt. 1882 & settled in Pennsylvania, USA. My grandmother, Frances Murray Beveridge, was about 3 years old when they emigrated & she was reputed to have been born in Glasgow. Her mother's line, the MURRAYS,' went back into Clackmannanshire where her father, John MURRAY & wife Frances STUPART MURRAY may have been married in 1837, although another record from an online source indicates that the marriage may have taken place in Culross, Fife, Scotland. Both records of this marriage had the date as 14 Nov. 1837. My grandmother's family eventually settled in St. Benedict, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, USA. My grandmother was Frances Murray Beveridge; she married Raphael Bird Rupert in 1899 and settled in McKean County, PA where I was born. At least one of the lines mentioned earlier may also have lived in Crail. Also, a brother or sister of my great-grandfather, Robert Roland Beveridge was still living in Wellwood in the early 1900's when my great-grandmother & a daughter or daughters paid them a visit. Somewhere, I have a postcard indicating such which was mailed by them during their visit to my grandmother. However, I do not know the name of the sibling of my great-grandfather Beveridge to whom they paid the visit. The name Roland repeats through many generations of the US family both as a first & as a middle name as it does with many generations of my Beveridges in Scotland as a middle name. In earlier generations it was spelled Rolland; I was wondering if perhaps this could have derived from the surname Rolland but I have not been able to find such a line with that name that they married into. An Aunt, I believe, of my great-grandfather Beveridge also came to America eventually settling in Wyoming; she also married a Beveridge. [More about this at a later time; I found the cemetery in Wyoming where that family is buried] I am desirous to learn more about my MURRAY line & recently found a # of generations beyond Frances Stupart & John Murray recently posted online by a gentleman in England. I would like to learn more details about their lives and the places they lived. My husband & I have been Patron Service workers at a Family History Center of our Church off & on for over 20 years. We also have other lines which are purported to go back into Scotland ( & some Scots-Irish genealogies, as well). Would love to connect with other researchers of any of these lines. I could provide more specific details at a later time. I also would welcome any help your society might provide. I do have names of other places in Fifeshire where children of these & earlier generations were born but would also like to know who the children (i.e. aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles & so forth back) married. I am also curious to know which person or persons may have emigrated to Australia ( I think in the 1840's) I am presuming that these may have been from my MURRAY line based on information I recollect hearing mentioned by a cousin of my Dad's when I was a teenager. That cousin and her husband lived in Elmira, N.Y. &, I believe, may have adopted children whom [I was told by another distant cousin who lives in the St. Benedict area] have done research on the MURRAY line. However, I do not know the names of these Elmira cousins. Their folks, however, were Viola & Russell Pooley. Viola & Russ lived both in Elmira, N.Y. & in Florida before their deaths. I last saw Viola, I think, in Barnesboro, PA (Cambria County) when she was visiting another of my Dad's cousins, Esther (Fletcher) Coble. This, I think was in the late 1970's or early 1980's. They used to also come visit my Aunt Paulene Rupert Finlay in Smethport, PA. Please pardon my digressions & asides but I thought to include some of them in hopes of finding some fellow tree-climbers from any of these lines. Sincerely, Rita Rupert Stroup P.S. Please may I inquire why my message was marked as "spam" & could not be included in your "Guest book" I provided sketchy details as I have been working on the Beveridge line for some 25 plus years now & have it back into the 1600's with some collateral lines in the late 1500's. I thought the purpose of this site was to connect fellow researchers as well as to aid & perhaps guide them to some of the resources that your Family History Society has. I did find the Dysart, St. Serf's Interment Lists (1795-1899) of possible interest & commend the Society that it has put them online.

I am sorry your message was marked as spam. I have just taken over running of the website and don't know why it was marked that way.

My mothers name was Barbara Berry I understand my grandfather William Berry came from Tayport. I heard my mum speak about Rose Street. My Grandfather left and moved to Falkirk and got married there in 1894 and my mum spoke about going to Tayport her holidays when she was young. I seem to recall her saying that my great grandfather had been a master mason and he had built the house in Rose Street but it may have been my great great grandfather, I think there had been some sort of family disagreement and that was why my grandfather moved away. My grandfather called his family Alexander, William, James, Donald, Janet, Barbara and Margaret which all seem to be family names When I look at the census it seems that my grandfather Wiiliam was brought up by his grandparents just wondered if any one can clarify if this was correct or even give me more information thank ou
